At Chafing The Dream we run for many reasons (just visit our About page), but some of our best runs are just for the pure joy of the run. It reminds me of being a kid and the pure joy experienced from playing pickle (or hot box) in my grandma's backyard, wading in a creek, or exploring the woods as if I was part of the Lewis and Clark expedition. For my husband this childhood revelry is from playing baseball. For his mom and my daughter it would be a little private time to draw and play dolls. Hopefully, we each have memories of just "being a kid" and are lucky enough to be able to watch our kids or grandkids do the same.

Earlier today a friend asked me to help spread the word about a run his business is sponsoring. I haven't done this before, but after reading about the charity it benefits, The Sunshine Kids Foundation, I knew I had to help. Their mission is to help kids battling cancer remember what it is like to simply be a kid. They sponsor local and national events for kids with cancer, taking care of all the behind the scenes details, including travel and lodging, so that these children and their families might actually be able to forget for a tiny moment that the struggles of their life far surpass those that most of us experience.
The Sunshine Run is a 5K or 1 mile fun run with a FREE kids dash. It is on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Fenton City Park (an amazing running park) just south of St. Louis, Missouri. The $25 entry fee can't even begin to cover the logistics and complementary tech tee (kudos the event team and corporate sponsors). Team Chafing The Dream will have runners there, including our children. REGISTER now and join us in support of the The Sunshine Kids.
